The company of award-winning textile designer Ella Doran specializes in the surface design of distinctive home accessories and furnishings. In the 1990s Ella Doran made a name for herself with table mats and coasters, creating at that time innovative designs through her recognizable photography-based images and patterns. Stimulated by an ongoing close collaboration with retailers and manufacturers, the Ella Doran product portfolio has since expanded considerably. Besides table mats and coasters it now includes trays, ceramic tableware, cushions and umbrellas as well as paper products, such as diaries, greeting cards, calendars, gift wrap/bags and designer wallpapers. State-of-the-art digital technologies and processes also enabled the establishment of a bespoke range of products. An example of this is the Ella Doran bespoke roller blinds that are scaled and cropped to customer specification. Yet, the bespoke and the commercial side of Ella Doran’s business cross-fertilise each other: Ella Doran now also offers made-to-measure blinds with scaled images and patterns, including a Roman blind version, in collaboration with established British blind manufacturer Eclectics. Drawing inspiration from the world around her, at home or abroad, Ella Doran creates new designs every season. All of her designs are suffused by her passion for colour, texture and the effects of sunlight. She insists on using high-quality materials that enhance the meaning of her designs, which often play with cultural icons and associations and which are sometimes nostalgic, as for instance this season’s popular Christmas collection of ‘vintage baubles’ for paper products, or timeless, such as the iconic ‘sunlight through leaves’ design.
